Item arrived on time, and return was just as seamless. This sander is certainly a nice tool in the bottom price range, and when working is quiet and works nicely. Mine unfortunatly made a horendous noise the first time it was turned on. Turns out the bottom motor housing which is supposed to be held on by 2 long screws/bolts hand partially fallen out of the bottom of the motor causing the brushes to contact the rotor at an angle. One of the bolts/screws could be tightened, the other was either stripped, or there is a nut on the end you can't get to that needed to be held while tightening.Pushing the motor housing back into place made the noise go away, and the sander worked "normally", but since the bolt/screw could not be tightened, it would eventually fail again. If you need a cheap occasional use sander, this one could be good, but I'd recommend taking the bottom off and making sure every screw you can see is not loose. In... I just got this triton sander from Amazon and everthing was in order. Setup is easy and it works well for my usage, cleaning up curves cut in 3/4" plywood and hardwood. Construction is solid and there is minimal vibration. I will say I found it tricky at first to freehand sand to the curve you want; practise was needed. But that's the user not the machine. The machine body has pegs and slots to hold the extra spindles (several sizes) and hardware; that's nice. Unfortunately I have no way to compare it to competing machines - but anyway I am satisfied with this one. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Good Performance and Price, This review is from: Triton TC450SPS 3.5 amp Oscillating Spindle Sander (Tools & Home Improvement) I've been doing woodworking for decades but have never had the need for a spindle sander. Space is at a premium in my small shop, and hence I've always sanded curved edges with a random orbit sander, files, or just plain old sandpaper. However, I'm now working on a project that has many bandsawn pieces with lots of curves. Using a random orbit sander would be both tedious and awkward, so I decided to get a spindle sander to do the job properly. I opted for the Triton over the more expensive, more powerful Delta primarily because of size and weight. Due to limited space the sander will be stored in a cabinent and brought out to the benchtop as needed. Benchtop machines are often referred to as "portable", but as you probably know this is quite a flexible term (my Delta planer is advertised as "portable", and it might be if you were an Olympic weight lifter, but not for me). I'm happy to say that the Triton is light enough to be stored fairly easily... Read more |
